Gunnery Sergeant Halvorson was born and raised in Minnesota. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on June 18, 2012. He graduated from 3rd Battalion, India Company at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA in September 2012. In September 2012, he reported to Marine Combat Training, Camp Pendleton, California.  In October 2012, he transferred to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and attended his primary MOS school.

In January 2013, Lance Corporal Halvorson reported for duty to Marine Wing Support Squadron 273, Marine Corps Air Station, Beaufort, South Carolina. In March 2014, Lance Corporal Halvorson was meritoriously promoted to Corporal. During Corporal Halvorson’s time at MWSS-273, he would serve as 1st Squad Leader of Engineer Platoon. In October 2015, Corporal Halvorson was promoted to Sergeant; he served as the Operations Chief of Engineer Platoon.

In January 2016, Sergeant Halvorson received orders to Marine Security Guard School. Upon graduation he received orders to Niamey, Niger to serve as a Watch Stander, He served as the Supply NCO and Operations NCO. In January 2017, Sergeant Halvorson was selected to attend Designated Country training (DC), where he received orders to serve as the Assistant Detachment Commander in Chengdu, China. In July 2017, Sergeant Halvorson was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. In January 2018, Staff Sergeant Halvorson received orders to serve as an Assistant Instructor at Marine Security Guard School, where he served as the Operations Chief.

In March 2019, Staff Sergeant reported to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion. Staff Sergeant Halvorson reported to Charlie Company and was hand selected to serve as Platoon Guide, 3rd Platoon. Staff Sergeant Halvorson attached to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines on Marine Rotational Force Darwin 20.2. Staff Sergeant Halvorson stayed with the remainder of the Battalion to take the Unit Deployment Program West 20.2 and served as the

S-4 Chief and Platoon Sergeant for the remainder of the deployment. Due to Gunnery Sergeant Halvorson’s superior performance while serving with 3d Battalion, 7th Marines, he was awarded a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal. In October 2020, Gunnery Sergeant Halvorson returned from deployment and reported to Sappers as the SNCOIC where he led and instructed 2 Sapper Leaders Courses and evaluated 3 Marine Corps Combat Readiness Evaluations.

Gunnery Sergeant Halvorson’s personal decorations include a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, and Sea Service Deployment ribbon.
